Sanjusangen-do Temple
First stop is Sanjusangen-do. One of the most impressive aspects of this temple is the main hall. At about 120 meters long, it's Japan's longest wooden building. Even more impressive is what's inside – a large 1000-armed wooden statue of Kannon, flanked by 1000 human-sized statues, all Important Cultural Properties in Japan.

Fushimi-Inari Shrine
Fushimi-Inari Shrine (Fushimi-Inari Taisha) is Kyoto's most popular attraction, and for good reason! This is the head Shinto shrine of all Inari shrines across Japan. Its thousands of vermilion shrine torii (gates) form a stunning arcade over the trails up Mount Inari. If you have the time and the energy, your guide will lead you on a 4km tour along the trails.

Fushimi-Inari Shrine Town
The approach to the shrine is lined with many stalls selling charms, food, and souvenirs, including fox masks and tiny torii unique to Fushimi-Inari. There are also plenty of tasty treats. Why not try one of the local specialties, such as grilled quail skewers or Inari rice crackers?
